Wood Cut List Optimization

For roof framing, facade battens and decking, lumber gets cut from standard 3, 4 or 5 m lengths. The optimizer tells you which pieces to cut from which board so you buy less material.

Linear cuts, not panels

This tool does linear (1D) cutting — beams, battens, trim, profiles. Sheet goods (plywood, OSB, MDF) need a 2D panel optimizer, which is a different problem.

Kerf and allowance

A circular saw takes 3–5 mm per cut — set it in the “Kerf” field. If you leave an allowance for finish trimming, add it to your cut lengths first.

Example

10 boards of 5 m, cuts of 14 × 1.2 m and 8 × 0.8 m — the calculator returns a plan for every board and what's left of it. Try the “Load example” button.

Frequently asked questions

Meters or millimeters?

Whatever suits you — switch the unit to “m” and enter meters directly.

Can I use leftovers from previous jobs?

Yes — add them as extra stock items with their lengths and quantities.
